Whipsnade Zoo - Dunstable

Whipsnade Zoo is the UK's biggest zoo and has over 200 different species. Whipsnade zoo has a a daily program of events that include feeds, demonstrations and chats. The zoo is open every day from 10am except Christmas but closing times change through the year. The route is well sign posted but Whipsnade Zoo postcode is LU6 2LF for those using a sat nav.

Woburn Safari Park & Abbey

Woburn safari park is a multi-activity centre where visitors can enjoy many different things. Visitors can enjoy a 'Road Safari', driving through the parkland experiencing the larger animals that roam free. It is also possible to arrange an 'off-road', up-close Woburn Safari Park VIP tour in a Landrover.

After seeing the larger animals you can then enjoy a walking safari amongst the smaller animals. For active teenagers there is Go-Ape at Woburn Safari Park where they can climb like apes in the trees. The park has it's own miniature railway, Swan shaped pedalos, indoor and outdoor activity areas and many other features to enjoy. If you plan your visit to Woburn Safari Park in advance it is possible to arrange to be a keeper for the day or stay overnight at the Inn at Woburn.

Wrest Park

If you don't know what to do in Bedfordshire but would like to enjoy the countryside, you may may want to consider Wrest Park for one of your days out in Bedfordshire. Bedfordshire is a landscape of gentle hills and valleys, peppered with woodland, heath and parkland and stretches across the plain of the Ouse to the Chiltern Hills Area. Bedfordshire is an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Set in this beautiful environment is Wrest Park. Wrest Park is a magnificent mansion house with unique treasures that can be seen when visiting the house. Wrest Park is surrounded by formal gardens perfect for this style of house.


Shuttleworth is another multi-activity centre and perfect for days out in Bedfordshire. Shuttleworth has a collection of Aircraft, cars and other vehicles.

Throughout the year Shuttleworth stages a number of events such as Country shows, Air displays, Model aircraft displays, Prom concerts, Steam and Country fayres, charity flying weekends, and holiday events such as Halloween and Christmas Grotto.

Shuttleworth has a Bird of Prey centre with almost 300 birds and is dedicated to conservation. The bird of prey centre has a number of activities that enable you to get close to these magnificent birds.

Within Shuttleworth there is a special garden called the Swiss garden that is a late regency garden and an outstanding example of swiss picturesque. The garden has fantastic thatched buildings and shelters.

For active children Shuttlewoth has the Jubilee play centre.

Oasis Beach Fun Pool

Bedford has an unusual shaped fun pool called Oasis. The exterior of the fun pool is designed like a pyramid. The inside is a tropical paradise with Waves! Flumes! Bubbles! Water Cannon! Water Mushroom! Bubble Beds! Bubble Burst! And in the summer an Outdoor Rapids! Perfect for days out in Bedfordshire.

As well as being home to Whipsnade Zoo, Woburn Safari Park, Wrest Park and Shuttleworth, Bedfordshire is home to a number of exciting things to do. For young children one of the most popular days out in Bedfordshire is a day trip to the farm. In Bedfordshire there are a number of children's farms where they can enjoy hand-on experiences. Cycling and Walking in Bedfordshire

If you are looking for days out in Bedfordshire there are over 1500 kilometres of public footpaths traversing the county that suit all standards and styles of walkers, from short circular walks to the Icknield Way and Greensand Ridge Walk. Sundon Hills Country Park

Situated at one of the highest points in Bedfordshire, the Sundon Hills offer fantastic views over the surrounding countryside.

Priory Country Park

Priory Lake offers a bank side walk on an all-weather path giving an easy walk of just over a mile. There are other longer walks but these include steps and can be muddy at times.

Harrold Odell Country Park

Is this another name for Priory park? Seems very similar.

Marston Vale

This is an area where a new forest is being created. The area will eventually cover 61 square miles.

Dunstable Downs

Dunstable Downs are part of the Chiltern Hills, in southern Bedfordshire. The area is popular with gliders and kite fliers who use the the height from the chalk escarpment to take off.

Leighton Buzzard Railway

Leighton Buzzard Railway offers a 70-minute round trip from Page's Park to Stonehenge Works, which is in the Bedfordshire countryside to the north of the town. The current track is just under 3 miles (4.8km) long.
