New Orleans Quarter

The Trafford Centre is a large indoor shopping centre and leisure complex. The centre is lavishly decorated with parts of the centre themed. The food court is called the Orient and is largest in Europe with seating for 1,600 and 31 restaurants, cafe’s and bars. There are almost 300 different shops in the centre along with leisure facilities such as a multi-screen cinema, bowling, laser quest, miniature golf and sea life centre. There are over 11,500 car parking spaces.

Arndale Centre

The Arndale shopping centre is at the heart of Manchester city centre. Although it is no longer the biggest centre in Manchester it is still one of the biggest in the UK with 210 stores.

Salford Quays

Salford Quays is a great example of regeneration. The former docks is now home to thousands of people, Media City, The Lowry, The Imperial War Museum, designer shops, restaurants, and bars.

If you walk along the edge of the dock on a bright sunny day you will see schools of fish 1-2 ft in length happily swimming in water that was once heavily polluted.

Water sports often take place in the dock and it is often used as a venue for activities such as the triathlon. In the background lies Old Trafford, to me as a Liverpool fan, a blot on the landscape, but to millions of united supporters, a place of worship. Either way, the area has lots to offer and is a nice place to visit.

Imperial War Museum

The Imperial War Museum is all about people and how lives are shaped by war. There are 3 floors, trails and guided tours to help navigate this impressive building designed by Daniel Libeskind.

The Lowry

The Lowry is a very iconic building due to its unusual design. The building is mainly an art gallery that features the work LS Lowry with his 'matchstick men and matchstick cats and dogs'. However, the centre is also an important part of the entertainment scene and features regular theatre shows. The centre also has a cafe that makes a good drop-in point for visitors to the area.

Manchester has a fantastic Ski and Snowboard centre next to the Trafford Centre called Chill Factor. You can ski, snowboard, sledge or try the downhill donuts. The centre has also added other activities such indoor skydiving were air is blasted upwards to support 'skydivers'.

The Museum of Science and Industry

The Museum of Science and Industry is a fantastic museum with lots to see.

One building features mainly flight and has planes, rockets, helicopters, and other related items. There is a 4d cinema, a demonstration that shows how cotton gets turned into fabric, a mock up of the sewer system including smells to accompany it, a power hall that has various machines from the the industrial age - steam power, water power, trains. There is a hands-on science section.

A brilliant place to visit. To make the most out of a visit, find out the times of demonstrations etc so you don't miss any.

Manchester Museum

The Hat Museum

This award winning visitor attraction offers two floors of interactive exhibits taking you on a journey through the history of Stockports once thriving hatting industry. The museum is home to a recreated hat factory with some 20 fully restored working Victorian-style machines and a fantastic collection of over 400 hats from around the world.

Belle Vue Greyhound Stadium

If you enjoy having a bet you will probably enjoy Belle Vue Greyhound stadium. The course has a resident commentator, a photo finish system for close finishes and an easy racecard to follow. The course is overlooked by a popular restaurant and can make a great night out.
