Doncaster Dome is one of the region's premier sports, leisure & entertainment destinations, with over 50 things to do under one roof.

There is a multi-pool water world with geysers, fountains, jets and airbeds, set against an Amazonian tropical rainforest background.

Elsewhere in the complex there is a split level ice rink - the only one in the country - with interconnecting ramps linking two Ice Pads together; A Spa, complete with 2 Finnish Sauna Cabins, a large Roman Circular Stream Room and giant Jacuzzi; and a multitude of sports facilities catering for most sports. The centre regularly hosts music concerts, comedy shows and sports events.

Magna Science Adventure Centre - Rotherham

Magna Science Adventure Centre is an educational children's play centre located in a disused steel mill in Rotherham.

The centre has sections for hands-on activities relating to Earth, Fire, Water and Air. Every hour, on the hour, Magna holds a display called "The Big Melt". Its purpose is to demonstrate how steel was made on this site when it was a steel mill.

Outside there are adventure and water play areas were kids can have lots of fun running, jumping, climbing, squirting drenching, spraying and basically having fun being children.

Metrodome Leisure Complex - Barnsley

Metrodome Leisure Complex - Barnsley This is a place where you could spend the day. The leisure centre contains a fantastic pirate themed waterpark called Calypso Cove with three fantastic water flumes, fun slides, diving pool, wave pool and a Sunken Galleon!

When you explore Calypso Cove you may be forced to walk the Plank, brave an Eruption or take on Terror Torrent, one of the fastest indoor water slides in the UK, before retreating to The Hideout on poolside to re-fuel and relax!

Later, if you're not interested in the award winning gym, you may enjoy the eight lane, Ten Pin Bowling alley or stepping inside the arena for a music concert. Whatever you decide there is plenty to do here.

Climbing Centres - Sheffield

The Foundry Climbing Centre

The Foundry Climbing Centre and centres like this one are not just for experts, they are for anyone. Climbers work in pairs and are always roped together for safety. Staff are very experienced and available to guide and train as required.

The centre has a number of courses and can take you from the very first indoor climb to routes on crags around the UK and abroad. The centre provides equipment and instructed activities for a wide range of groups including youth, schools, family, corporate, and fundraising. Experienced climbers can practice their leading, top-roping, and bouldering skills on 1000 square meters of climbing walls

Rother Valley Country Park - Rotherham

Rother Valley Country Park - Rotherham Is a large 750 acre park with 5 lakes. The main lake is one mile in length and is used for many watersports such as sailing, canoeing and windsurfing. The park also has a number of walking and cycling routes which link to the Trans Pennine Trail and Route 6 on the Sustrans national network.

Over 260 different varieties of birds including rare birds such as the Red-rumped Swallow have been seen here during the past two decades. Fishing is available on the River Rother, Nethermore Lake and Northern Lake in specified areas.

Hatfield Outdoor Activity Centre - Doncaster

Located on the outskirts of Doncaster, Hatfield Outdoor Activity Centre is a fantastic facility for outdoor enthusiasts & novices alike.

Set against an idyllic woodland backdrop, the activity centre offers a range of water-based and land-based activities for all ages and abilities.

Doncaster Racecourse

Doncaster Racecourse hosts 35 national hunt and flat racing fixtures and has been home to the world famous ladbrokes St. Ledger since 1833 and host meetings all year round. Doncaster has the distinction of both starting and ending the flat season on turf. Every September, Doncaster hosts the prestigious four-day Ladbrokes St. Leger Festival, which is acclaimed as the premier sporting occasion of the Autumn calendar.


 The museum features both civilian and military aircraft from all eras of aviation history. The collection includes Mach 2 jet fighters, helicopters and a number of propeller based aircraft.

National Ice Skating Centre - Sheffield

This is a great place for anything to do with ice skating. If you are learning to skate they can take from the sit and stand (off ice) stage through to 2 foot jumps. The ice rink has coaches, events, speed skating, dancing, sport, competitions and skating for pleasure.

Maize Maze - Barnsley

Barnsley Maize maze opens from July to September (depending on how the maize has grown) at Jowett House Farm, Cawthorne, Barnsley.

I found these comments from a visitor that seemed to say it all.

"Well thought-out, well-staffed, and good value for money, the Maize Maze gave us tremendous family entertainment - and for a whole day there were no televisions and no computer games!

The maize itself is a masterpiece of ingenuity, and voted as superb by the seven children in our group. Almost as popular, the mini-mazes cut into the grass were just as much fun."

Worsbrough Mill & Country Park

Worsbrough Mill is a working water mill set in 240 acres of country park. The mill has regular demonstrations throughout the year were you can watch as wheat grain is ground to flour in the traditional way. Please check the website for the dates. The country park is open to anglers, bird watchers, walkers and cyclist.

Sheffield Winter Garden

Sheffield Winter Garden is one of the largest temperate glasshouses to be built in the UK during the last hundred years and has created a stunning green world in the heart of the Sheffield. The Winter Garden also provides a home for several retail units and offers a welcome stop for coffee and light refreshments.

Meadowhall is a huge shopping centre in Sheffield with almost 300 high street retailers. There are several cafe’s, restaurants and coffee shops as well as an 11 screen Vue cinema.

Tropical Butterfly House - Sheffield

Tropical Butterfly House - The butterfly house has free flying butterflies, exotic birds, Egyptian fruit bats, a leaf cutter ant colony and many other creatures.

Elsewhere in the park you can experience the daily animal encounters with exotic animals such as snakes, lizards and creepy crawlies. There is a parrot show and a bird of prey display. It is possible to gift someone with a special experiences such as Adult or Junior keeper for the day, Face your fears, Hawk walk or spend time in the Meerkats enclosure.

The park has also expanded the adventure play park by adding 'the Realm of Camelot', with tall towers and slides etc.
