The South Downs are an area of outstanding natural beauty. The area is open to walkers, cyclists, horse riders, and the disabled people using suitable cross country equipment. The South Downs way runs for about 100 miles between Winchester and Eastbourne through the rolling chalk downs of Sussex and Hampshire.

The house and its grounds are the site of the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed, whilst elsewhere on the estate the Goodwood Circuit motorsport track hosts the annual Goodwood Revival, and Goodwood Racecourse hosts "Glorious Goodwood" and a number of other race meetings. The estate also includes the Goodwood Golf Course and a cricket pitch, home to Goodwood Cricket Club.

Hollycombe Steam Collection is a collection of steam-powered vehicles, rides and attractions and includes fairground rides, a display farm and three railways. Situated on the Hampshire and Sussex border, Hollycombe is far more than just a working steam museum, it's a place where the past comes to life. There are three railways: narrow gauge, standard gauge and miniature railway. The Edwardian Fairground is a complete steam fair comprising rides originating from the 1870s and later. The farm includes a wide range of vintage steam-powered farm equipment including: ploughing engines, a threshing machine, a baler, and a stationary steam engine.

This museum is set in 50 acres of countryside and you can wander through a collection of 50 buildings dating from the 13th century to the 19th century. The site is brought to life with demonstrations of traditional rural trades and crafts. Watch out for the food and folk festivals.

Amberley Museum & Heritage Centre

Amberley Museum and Heritage Centre is a 36 acre site set in the South Downs National Park. Dedicated to the industrial heritage of the South East, exhibits include a narrow-gauge railway and bus service (both provide free nostalgic travel around the site), Connected Earth telecommunications hall, energy electricity hall, printing workshop and much more. The Museum is also home to traditional crafts people, such as the stained glass maker, blacksmith and potter, plus a fabulous restaurant, gift shop and numerous picnic areas where stunning surroundings can be enjoyed.

South Downs Light Railway

Trains run from March to September and the line runs around the grounds of Pulborough Wyevale garden centre.

There are over 20 race meetings at Fontwell Park each year and the racecourse is very 'customer friendly' with a number of evenings, Saturday and Sundays meetings. Check the site for details. The feature race of the season at Fontwell Park is National Spirit Hurdle run over a distance of two miles and four furlongs in February.

The Cathedral is open every day and all year with free entry.  There are free drop-in guided tours, self-guiding leaflets for those who prefer to wander at their own pace, and special trails for children.  There is also a superb Cloisters Café and Shop, complete with terrace and walled garden. Visitors can also enjoy the historic Cathedral Close and the beautiful Bishop's Palace Gardens, both only a few steps away.

Fishbourne Roman Palace - Chichester. The Roman villa was so large that it became known as Fishbourne Roman Palace, and a museum was erected by the Sussex Archaeological Society to protect and preserve some of the remains in situ. The rectangular palace was surrounded by formal gardens and the gardens have been re-planted using authentic plants from the Roman period. The northern half of the building has been reconstructed. A team of volunteers and professional archaeologists are involved in continuing research on a site nearby that is thought to be military buildings.
